Our Commitment to a Greener Conference
CHoPS 2027 is committed to being a rail-first, low-waste, and climate-aware conference. As engineers, scientists, and practitioners in particulate systems, we recognise our responsibility to minimise the footprint of our event - and to lead by example.
Sustainability at the heart of CHoPS 2027: we aim to make this conference as climate-responsible as possible - from venue and catering to travel and materials.
What We Compensate
We calculate our total footprint per participant by including:
- Travel to and from the conference
- Catering and food production during the event
- Energy use of the venue and AV equipment
- Printed materials and merchandise
- Accommodation for invited speakers
These together represent approximately 30–80 tonnes of CO₂ for a three-day conference. To compensate, we invite every participant to offset their share directly during registration.

Rail-First Travel
We strongly encourage participants to travel by train whenever possible. Delft is extremely well connected to Rotterdam, The Hague, Amsterdam, Brussels and Paris. By choosing rail over air, you reduce the most carbon-intensive part of your conference footprint.
Low-Waste Catering
- Vegetarian-first menus with low food waste and local sourcing
- Reusable dishes, cups, and cutlery - no single-use plastics
- Refill water stations throughout the venue
- Clearly labelled allergens and dietary options
Sustainable Operations
- Digital-only programme (print available on request)
- Recycled lanyards and sustainable conference materials
- On-site waste sorting and recycling stations
- Signage and prompts encouraging sustainable choices
